- Principles of self-organization- What is “Good Organization”. In the passage, Ashby mentions how the “Brain” is already a good form of organization. “The brain of a living organism, for instance, is usually judged as having good organization if the organization acts so as to further the survival of the organism.” If that can be true for humans can it be said for machines as well? Do machines hone organizational skills that are up to par with humans? Can Machines strive for survival or do they have constraints which hold them back. He later mentions at the end that we as humans do not fully use our brains organizational capacity. How could we tap into that new realm and further our organizational skills?
- Systems Esthetics- “Kinetic Art”, the radical alternatives to the prevailing formalist esthetic. Kinetics in the art realms is the manipulation and of movement. Art that “moves” and reacts to external parameters. In the passage. Burham mentions that kinetic art is unique. “The peripheral perception of sound and movement in space is filled with activity….K.A. has trivialized more graspable aspect of motion.” Can Kinetic art fill in for the new esthetic? It pushes the boundaries of staticism and achieves new grounds in dynamics. Can Kinetics be formalized to be the new norms rather than traditional esthetics? Is it better or worse? or is it simply just an alternative with no intentions to build on itself?
- A Home is not a House- “What is the house doing except concealing your mechanical pudenda”. Dallegret states in the passage that all a house is “Nothing but a hollow shell…” I pose the question as “if people didn’t care about “esthetics” (idealized it in a not severe manner) and “Convenience” then would the utilization of a house be different? If we as humans keep on over saturating our “Houses” for just basic needs then why do we still care about esthetics? Can this social norm change over time? Can a house not be two-fold and or separate entities? Can it possibly work as one cohesive unit regardless of its appearance? But can living in pure mechanization but too much ina spectrum? should there be a balance?
